Stranraer Prayer Update No.1

Praise God:

  • For the team’s safe arrival in Stranraer.
  • For a united team, working together with a common purpose.
  • For a well-filled hall on Sunday night for Songs of Praise.
  • For around three hundred school children from local schools who heard that they are special to God and that He loves them.
  • For Rachel who lead the school’s session, for her enthusiasm and passion as she taught.
  • For the teachers and support staff who came with them and also heard the message.
  • For good times of team bible study, and the challenges given to all.

Pray for:

  • Each school child, and the adults with them, took home a copy of Mark’s Gospel, along with a DVD Cracking Open Easter.  Pray that they will read their little bit of Bible and work through their DVD, and that they will come to have an understanding and a desire to know more about the Lord Jesus.
  • The children learned an outline of the entire bible – the Bible in Fifty Words!  Prayer that this will remain in their minds and as they do the actions, maybe even in a different context, they will be reminded of the stories they heard.
  • A very supportive head teacher that she too will come to know the Lord personally.
  • Christian teachers and head teachers as they cope with the constrictions that are placed on them, walking a fine line between being known as a Christian but not being able to overtly share within the school.
  • Today’s Coffee Break, that local people will drop in, and the there will be opportunity to have meaningful conversations with them.
  • Tonight’s Film Night for S1-4.  Pray that God will speak to the young people through the medium of the film. Pray for team as they mingle with them, and that they are able to answer any question which are raised.
  • Tomorrow night’s Family Fun Night, for a good time of fun and mixing with the local neighbours, and for safety in all the games etc..  Pray for Douglas as he gives the epilogue, that the Holy Spirit will work in the hearts of everyone who hears.
  • Preparations for Creetown mission and for safe travel as team members travel there at the weekend.

This summer we are have 4 exciting missions to get involved with.

Stranraer

2 – 9 July

An exciting change this year! With the school term running into the first week of July, the mission will not run the usual holiday club. Instead the church will host around six hundred children from primary schools, over four days of scheduled visits. Rachel Lyagoba (Newall) will lead the team in presenting a programme marking the 400th year of the King James Bible.

Houseparents: Margaret and Drew Thomson.

Creetown

9 – 16 July

This will be a smaller team, focussing primarily on children’s work, and possibly one or two events for young teens. Some adult events included.

Houseparents: Jim and Anne Dornan.

Campbeltown

16 – 24 July

Working with Lorne and Lowland Church of Scotland, the mission will build on work done in previous years, expanding into youth work with two exciting evening events and a youth cafe. Coffee morning outreach and other evening will be included.

Houseparents: Elaine and Paul Salina.

Kilbirnie

23 – 30 July

A children’s club, will run in the afternoons and the on-going coffee morning work will be supported. Other events are being arranged including a Ladies Night and BBQ.

Children’s Workers: Brian & Liz Hawthorne

You Can Help!

You Can Help!

You can help scem this summer! We have a whole variety of ways in which you can be part of our exciting work and impact Scotland For Christ.

Team member

Team members with scem are able to get involved in a number of ways -

Leading kids’ clubs, doing youth outreach, leading praise and worship, and reaching out to people in a whole range of events and activities.  Each mission is different.

House Parent

Each team relies on house-parents who lead the team, motivate and care so that the team are focussed and effective in mission.

Cook

Vital to the work of scem are the people who cook for the teams.  An army marches on its stomach – well, scem teams are a bit like that.  If you could give a week in the summer to prepare food for hungry young folk then get in touch.

Bible Teacher

Each team receives daily Bible teaching to equip them for Christian life and service both on mission and back home.  This is part of our aim to ensure that a week spent on mission with scem will be a week well invested for your future.  If you are a gifted Bible teacher and can offer teaching for a team for a week we would love to hear from you.

Prayer Partner

We depend totally on friends who provide prayer support for scem teams.  We would really value your commitment to pray for us.  We would be glad to send you our prayer updates.
