This summer we held our fifth consecutive summer mission in partnership with the small assembly at Lewis Street Gospel Hall, with a team of eleven people of various ages. As housemum, I have to make particular note of their on-time (or nearly!) lights-out. No walking the corridors late into the night. Bliss!

The children’s club was led by Brian and Liz Hawthorne and around twenty children attended each day. It was great to see their enthusiasm for fun and games, but also to see their attentive listening to the lessons, and to hear them repeat memory verses at the end of the week. We pray that these verses stay fixed in their minds, and be an assurance and comfort to them for the rest of their lives. Our lunch-time debriefs after the holiday club were at times quite heart-rending, as we heard and prayed for, requests given by the children.

It was encouraging to see a good turn-out of adults at both the Family Fun Night and the Parents’ Night, and to feel that there was a greater freedom in conversation with them. The Afternoon Tea for ladies was another heartening time, with mums, grannies and aunties, and some ladies from other churches in the town. Two of the girls on the team spoke well of their experiences as Christians and during some hands-on craft time, and over tea, a number of good discussions were held.

Our bible teaching this year was in the hands of Douglas Young who ably took us through early church days in Acts, drawing pertinent lessons for each of us today. For Jude McBride this year was her first as cook, after a number of years as team member and girl leader. It has to be reported that she took to her new duties like a duck to water, and everyone was contentedly full for the week.

Although the weather was mixed and some outdoor events suffered, we were able to distribute a further 3000 gospel leaflets on behalf of Every Home in Scotland, helping in their aim of reaching each home with Christian literature. It is encouraging to learn that there have been requests for bible study material, and for a bible, which we had the privilege of delivering to a lady in the area on one of our monthly visits.

Please pray for us as we travel down the second Sunday of each month. Pray that children will continue to attend the Sunday Club, and that the Lord will be exalted in everything we do.
